The PDS engineering intern will support the development of sensing technologies through analysis and simulation of materials, components and products. This critical role will require a proactive approach to problem solving and willingness to learn from top technical talent throughout the organisation.

 

Main duties will include:

  • Use of mechanical engineering principles, materials knowledge, and simulation tools for failure prediction and analysis.
  • Support component/material testing, validation & fault diagnosis for new and existing products.
  • Develop and utilise analysis & characterisation techniques to determine material data critical to the design process.
  • Conduct CAE simulation in relation to material analysis and failure prediction.
  • Develop, explore and maintain advanced analysis equipment & facilities.
  • Implement, maintain and advance processes for laboratory control, simulation, material analysis and collaboration.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Enrolment and partial completion of Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering (Averaging 2:1) or equivalent.
  • Experience in 3D CAD packages & 2D drawing preparation.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) & interpersonal skills.
  • Highly computer literate / proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Initiative, team working, research & problem-solving skills are essential.
  • A valid driver’s licence is required.

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of Finite Element Analysis packages
  • Experience of Microsoft collaboration tools – SharePoint, MS Teams, etc…
  • Experience of materials analysis processes in a laboratory environment.

 

This will be a full-time role based in Antrim, Northern Ireland.  Occasional travel may be required, e.g. visiting Customers, Suppliers & other Sensata R&D/Manufacturing sites.
